Dr. Francis Cuozzo, a native of Montclair, New Jersey, is a distinguished Vascular Surgeon and retired Navy Commander with a unique background in both military and civilian medicine. He joined the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga in 2023 after serving as Division Chief of Vascular Surgery and Medical Director of the Vascular Lab at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Dr. Cuozzo’s career began at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and served as Captain of the Scarlet Knights football team. Following two years as a high school chemistry teacher and coach, he pursued a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology at Texas Woman’s University.
Dr. Cuozzo earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, where he was Vice President of Academic Affairs. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in 2010 and went on to specialize in vascular surgery with fellowship training at Eastern Virginia Medical School. His military career includes deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, where he provided life-saving care in forward surgical units and earned multiple commendations for his service.
Throughout his career, Dr. Cuozzo has introduced advanced surgical techniques, including Pulmonary Embolus Thrombectomy, Thoracic Endovascular Repair, and Transcarotid Artery Revascularization, and served as a clinical expert for anterior spine exposure. In addition to his clinical expertise, he has contributed to the training of residents and served on the Clinical Competency Committee for General Surgery.
Dr. Cuozzo is passionate about advancing vascular care and improving patient outcomes. He resides in Chattanooga, TN, with his wife and four children, and is committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care to his patients at the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga.
